If Windows says "Windows protected your PC"
Taskvane isn't code-signed yet, so Microsoft SmartScreen warns about it the first time you run it. Click More info, then Run anyway. This is common for new open-source apps, and it goes away once the app is signed.
To confirm your download is the genuine file, compare its SHA-256 checksum with the one in SHA256SUMS.txt:
Get-FileHash .\Taskvane-1.2.0-Setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256Turning on CPU temperature and power
Windows only shows CPU sensors to apps running as administrator, through a signed driver called PawnIO. The installer offers to set this up. In the portable version, click Enable CPU sensors in the app; it asks for permission once. More about how this works.
